In the Sharp Shot Insider Newsletter, I asked you what you loved most about shooting. The responses flooded in, and I’ve really enjoyed reading the reasons and stories you’ve given me. So uplifting! Here’s the first one I’d like to pass along. (More to follow) Enjoy!
This is Gary and Rylie’s story. A veteran and college student who found his balance through shooting again and sharing with his son.
“My why I shoot is hard to explain. I am a veteran, I like many others have some residual combat issue, though mine are rather mild. I chose to leave the Army after I was divorced and became a single parent. Something always felt lacking though.
Some years later when I got a house, I got my first gun. The standard “protection” answer. I learned at that point, that was what was lacking. Going to the range and shooting. The sounds, the smells, the feeling of it; I missed that. I also learned that it helps keep me in a balance. I learned that going to college is stressful at my age while working. Going to the range every so often while in semester helps avert getting too much stress.
As the years went on, four years now, my son [Age 10] has become my shooting partner. It is something we can share, and I can teach him. I have included a picture of us, me teaching him to shoot an AR for the first time this past summer.” – Gary K.
